Key legislation for plastic packaging, including bioplastics
PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) - a new European Union regulation on packaging and packaging waste, which will replace the current Directive 94/62/EC. The PPWR is a piece of legislation that will be binding on every European Union member state. In the PPWR, special attention is given to compostable packaging, including clarification of the conditions that must be met for packaging to achieve compostable status.
SUP Directive (Single-Use Plastics) - The so-called 'Plastics Directive', adopted by the EU in May 2019, which restricts the use of single-use plastic products. The SUP Directive promotes the implementation of more sustainable solutions, such as biodegradable packaging made from renewable raw materials, among others. The provisions of the SUP Directive were introduced into Polish law by the Act of 14 April 2023 amending the Act on the obligations of entrepreneurs with regard to the management of certain waste and the product fee and certain other acts.
We advise on how to ensure compliance with current legislation on biobased and biodegradable products
We support manufacturers of bioplastic products in implementing solutions that guarantee compliance with legal regulations and national and international standards. The situation in this field is dynamic and therefore we continuously monitor the legal environment and follow the progress of legislative work in Poland, Europe and worldwide.
